ENGLAND'S GINS 
In the North West - from the fells and lakes of the north to the industrial areas around Manchester and Liverpool - gin is making its mark. Drinking it and crafting it has captured the imagination from Merseyside to Manchester and across Lancashire, Cumbria and Cheshire. In Yorkshire, distillers and makers are creating beaut ifully crafted gins in the Dales, the Moors, the Cities and the Coast. This all makes rich material for two books telling the stories of gins of these regions.

The Distilling Clan is the distilleries – its members have a still in Scotland, and they use it to make gin.

 Kith & Kin

The Kith & Kin are the rest: the gins we think of as Scottish. There are makers, creators and brand owners who have gin made for them in Scotland – and elsewhere. There are cuckoo distillers who make their gin on other people’s stills. And there are makers who use compounding techniques to create “bathtub” gins.

The Author

Fiona Laing has been writing about food and drink in Scotland for more than a decade. First whisky was the drink of choice, mainly as she worked with a Bangalore-based distiller who introduced the first Indian single malt whisky to Europe. The other spirits and wine were never far behind as she travelled the world, listening to the stories of the makers. Food editor, travel writer, Fiona has explored food and drink whenever her career as a newspaper journalist and PR consultant allowed.
